Montgomery County Projected vs Actual
A projected release date is a calculation. An actual release date is the custody event. Montgomery County jail records may show release after it occurs, but the reviewed public portal did not publish a projected release field for county detainees. For a pretrial person, there may be no fixed date at all because bond, ROR, court orders, dismissal, or transfer can change the outcome.
For state prisoners, ADOC calls the projected concept "Minimum Release Date." VNS uses "Release Date" for actual ADOC release and "Mandatory Release to Supervision" for projected release to ABPP supervision. These terms are not interchangeable.
Find Montgomery County Release Dates
Use the system that controls the custody. Do not apply ADOC good-time terms to a local jail detainee, and do not use the county jail portal for federal or ICE releases.

Montgomery County Release Date Terms
Alabama uses several public date labels. Read each label in its source system, then confirm with the agency that created the record.

Alabama Good-Time Rules
Alabama Correctional Incentive Time is governed by Alabama Code Section 14-9-41. The statute creates earning classes and says Class IV prisoners receive no correctional incentive time. It also excludes certain categories, including Class A felonies, life or death sentences, sentences over 15 years, and child sex offenses as defined by law.
ADOC says disciplinaries can take away good time and change the Minimum Release Date. New cases or sentence changes sent by the circuit clerk can also move the date. That is why a page or printout should be treated as a snapshot, not a promise.
Note: Good-time eligibility is individual and should not be calculated from public summaries alone.
Why Montgomery Release Dates Change
Release dates can move for legal, disciplinary, and custody reasons. The most common issue is confusing a projected state-prison date with an actual release event.

Federal Montgomery Release Dates
For federal inmates at FPC Montgomery or cases managed by RRM Montgomery, use the BOP inmate locator. BOP says a future Release Date is projected and can change, including when sentence calculations are updated. Federal projected dates should not be mixed with Alabama ADOC dates.

Montgomery County Jail Date Limits
The county jail portal is not built like a prison sentence calculator. A local detainee may be released by a judge, bond, ROR, dismissal, time served, transfer, or program placement. Those events depend on court orders, bond status, jail credit, pending holds, and agency decisions. The public Montgomery portal does not give a future release-date field for that situation.
For a local jail sentence or short stay, ask for the booking and release record and compare it to the court docket. If the person was released to Montgomery County Community Corrections, the release date from jail and the end of supervision are two different questions. If the person was transferred to ADOC, the relevant future date becomes an ADOC or VNS release-date term.
ADOC Minimum Release Date
ADOC's Minimum Release Date is the Alabama state-prison projected date most relevant to a Montgomery County release date lookup. ADOC defines it as the earliest scheduled date an inmate can be released to probation or end of sentence. The date can move if disciplinaries remove good time, if the circuit clerk sends new cases, or if the sentence changes.
This date should not be read as a county jail release date. It belongs to ADOC custody. If the person was booked at Mac Sim Butler and later committed to ADOC, the jail release or transfer date and the ADOC Minimum Release Date answer two different questions. Use the court commitment record to connect the county case to the state prison record.
Alabama CIT Class Limits
Correctional Incentive Time can affect an ADOC release calculation, but not every prisoner earns it. Alabama Code Section 14-9-41 creates earning classes. The research notes that Class IV prisoners receive no correctional incentive time and are generally flat time or day-for-day. It also notes exclusions for Class A felonies, deadly-weapon deaths, life or death sentences, sentences over 15 years, and child sex offenses as defined by law.
Because eligibility and class status are individual, the public page should not be used to do arithmetic. Use ADOC and court records for the sentence, the good-time class, and any disciplinary loss. If the displayed Minimum Release Date changes, the cause may be classification, discipline, new case information, or a sentence correction.
Mandatory Supervision Release Date
Mandatory Release to Supervision is a separate Alabama date label. ABPP describes mandatory release under Code Section 15-22-26.2 as an automated process for eligible inmates whose offenses occurred on or after January 30, 2016, with exclusions noted in the research. VNS defines the field as a projected date for release to ABPP supervision.
That means the person may leave ADOC incarceration before the sentence is fully over, but the release is supervised. For a Montgomery County lookup, confirm the VNS date with ABPP and the court sentence. Do not confuse mandatory supervision with a final discharge from all custody or supervision obligations.
BOP Montgomery Release Date
Federal release-date records use BOP rules. The BOP locator covers federal inmates from 1982 forward and displays release-date information for federal custody. BOP's release-date explanation says a future date is projected, and the locator warns that calculations can change, including under First Step Act updates.
For FPC Montgomery or RRM Montgomery, use BOP and the federal docket. Do not substitute ADOC Minimum Release Date, VNS Mandatory Release to Supervision, or county jail booking records for the federal release date. A federal person may be in a residential reentry or home-confinement phase before final BOP release.
