ADOC Release Confirmation

The ADOC inmate search is a state-prison current-custody lookup. Its warning matters for every Montgomery County state-prison page: the database only contains currently incarcerated inmates, and historical data is not available online. That means a no-result search can mean release, discharge, non-public status, or a record outside ADOC. It should not be treated as a complete release archive.

ADOC release confirmation depends on the question. If the person may still be incarcerated, search by AIS number or name. If the person has left ADOC, use Alabama VNS for release-related fields, ADOC public-records channels for a custody or discharge record, ABPP for parole or mandatory-supervision status, and the sentencing court when the sentence or commitment order is unclear.

Check ADOC State Release

A Montgomery County resident may be connected to ADOC through Kilby, Montgomery Women's, Red Eagle, the central office, or a court commitment from Montgomery County. State-prison release is not confirmed through the sheriff's current-inmate grid.

1. Search ADOC by AIS number when available. Use name search only if the number is not known.
2. If the person appears, record the facility, identifiers, and any release-date vocabulary shown.
3. If no result appears and a prison sentence is known, shift to Alabama VNS, ADOC records, ABPP, and court records.
4. For projected dates, compare ADOC's Minimum Release Date with VNS and ABPP supervision terms.
5. For federal, ICE, or county-only cases, leave the ADOC path and use the correct authority.

ADOC Records Contact

ADOC central office is in Montgomery, which makes it a local system for this county even when the person was confined elsewhere in Alabama. A records request should identify the person by AIS number, full name, date of birth if known, and the specific public release or discharge fields sought.

ADOC Release Date Law

Alabama Correctional Incentive Time is governed by Alabama Code Section 14-9-41. The statute creates earning classes and exclusions, which explains why the same sentence length can have different release timing. Mandatory supervision is tied to Section 15-22-26.2 for eligible offenses committed on or after January 30, 2016, with exclusions described by ABPP. Parole consideration is separate and depends on ABPP calculations under Section 15-22-28(e).

ADOC, VNS, and ABPP

ADOC, Alabama VNS, and ABPP answer related but different release questions. ADOC identifies current state-prison custody and keeps correctional records. VNS is built around custody and release notification for convicted Alabama offenders sentenced to ADOC custody. ABPP handles parole and mandatory-supervision status after release. A Montgomery County state-prison release often needs all three systems because a person may leave a facility but remain under supervision.

The VNS scope warning is important. Alabama VNS says it applies to convicted Alabama offenders sentenced to prison, and pretrial cases should be checked with the sheriff in the county where the crime occurred. That means VNS is a strong source for Kilby, Montgomery Women's, Red Eagle, and other ADOC cases, but it is not the main source for a Montgomery County pretrial jail release.

ADOC Record Request Details

A useful ADOC request should be narrow. Ask for a public custody summary, release/discharge record, facility of release, release date, release type, and supervision status when public. Include AIS number, full name, date of birth if known, approximate sentence or custody dates, and the facility name. If the question is about a projected release date, ask for the public release-date field and be clear that the date may have changed due to discipline, clerk updates, sentence changes, or ABPP action.

Do not ask the Montgomery County jail to confirm a state-prison discharge. The county jail can confirm its own booking and release events. ADOC controls state-prison records.

ADOC Facilities Around Montgomery

Montgomery County has several ADOC touchpoints. Kilby receives and classifies most male state inmates and provides hospital services. Montgomery Women's Community Based Facility and Community Work Center is an ADOC women's community-based facility behind Kilby. Red Eagle is a male community work center north of Montgomery with a reintegration mission. Those facilities are local to the Montgomery release landscape, but they are not county jail facilities.

That local density creates search confusion. A person can be a Montgomery-area inmate without being in Montgomery County sheriff custody. If the record mentions Kilby, Montgomery Women's, Red Eagle, an AIS number, mandatory release, or parole consideration, use the state path. If the record mentions a county booking number, Mac Sim Butler, bond, ROR, or recent arrest, use the sheriff and court path. If the record mentions BOP, ICE, or USMS, leave both county and ADOC systems and use the federal source.

ADOC central office also gives Montgomery a records hub for statewide questions. That is why a local Montgomery release search may still end with a state public-records request.
