Search Montgomery County Released Inmates

Montgomery County released inmates can be hard to trace because a person may leave the county jail, enter state prison, move to federal or immigration custody, or begin supervision. A Montgomery County released inmate search should start with the custody system that last held the person, then move to release records, court orders, ADOC status, VINE notifications, or parole records. Montgomery County released inmates may no longer appear on a live jail roster, so a missing roster result is only a clue. Montgomery County released inmates are confirmed through the records and agencies that created the release event.

Montgomery County Release Systems

Montgomery County release research begins with custody authority. The Mac Sim Butler Montgomery County Detention Facility is the county jail, but Montgomery also has ADOC headquarters, Kilby, Montgomery Women's, Red Eagle, FPC Montgomery, RRM Montgomery, the Montgomery Processing Center, the U.S. Marshals Service, and the statewide parole board hearing site. A person can be described as a Montgomery release in more than one system.

The sheriff's public portal is useful, but it is not a release archive. It offers Current Inmates, Recent Arrests, and Outstanding Warrants. County release confirmation may require the booking and release record, the court docket, Community Corrections, ADOC, BOP, ICE, or ABPP.

The Montgomery sheriff inmate and warrant portal is the public starting point for county jail status.

Montgomery County Release Types

A Montgomery County release can mean bond, release on recognizance, release into Community Corrections, time served, dismissal, transfer, parole, mandatory supervision, or discharge. Those outcomes are not interchangeable. Bond and ROR usually mean the person left jail before the case ended. Time served means custody credit or a short sentence satisfied the jail term. Transfer means the person left one facility while another agency still controls custody.

Montgomery County Community Corrections is a local path that matters. Its Pre-Trial Release Program covers people arrested but not convicted who may be released into program custody or ROR and monitored until adjudication or dismissal. That is a jail release, not a finished criminal case.

Montgomery County Release Record Fields

A county jail release or discharge record ties the release event back to the booking. The public portal shows booking-side details such as booking number, name, date of birth, booking date, charges, bond formatting, and a booking photo in the detail view. The reviewed public pages did not show a public release date field, so older or completed releases should be confirmed through records rather than inferred from a web list.

FieldWhat it can show
Booking numberThe local identifier that anchors the request
Release date and timeWhen county custody ended, if public
Release typeBond, ROR, time served, transfer, court order, dismissal, or other disposition
Charges and case numbersThe court files that explain the release authority
Destination or holdTransfer to ADOC, BOP, ICE, another county, or supervision when recorded
Roster clue: Disappearance from Current Inmates can suggest release or transfer, but it does not prove which event occurred.

Request Montgomery County Release Records

Use a narrow, factual request. Ask for the public booking and release/discharge record for a named person, date of birth if known, booking number if known, and approximate booking date. If a booking photo is needed, request the public booking photograph tied to that booking number. Redactions may apply for juvenile, sealed, expunged, protected, or investigative material.

  1. Search the sheriff portal for booking number, booking date, charges, and current status.
  2. Check the court docket through the Montgomery County Circuit Criminal division or AlaCourt Access for bond, sentence, dismissal, or transfer orders.
  3. Send the sheriff a purpose-neutral request for the booking and release/discharge record.
  4. If the person moved to prison or federal custody, request the matching ADOC, BOP, ICE, or court record instead.

Alabama public records law starts with Code Section 36-12-40, and Alabama Code Section 41-13-1 defines public records broadly. Those laws do not make every field public. Agency policy, court sealing, expungement, and confidentiality rules still matter.

Find Released Montgomery County Inmates

The best search path is sequential. Start with the Montgomery sheriff portal. If the person is still on Current Inmates, release from the county jail is not confirmed. If the person is absent, check Recent Arrests for a booking within the last 96 hours. That page is an arrest feed, not a release feed, but it can supply the booking number needed for the records request.

Next, use the court record. The Montgomery County Circuit Criminal division handles felony criminal matters and misdemeanor appeals. AlaCourt Access can provide state trial court records. Court records can show whether the roster change was bond, ROR, dismissal, sentence, probation, commitment to ADOC, or a warrant after failure to appear.

  1. Search Current Inmates for an active county jail record.
  2. Use Recent Arrests only to collect booking identifiers from the 96-hour arrest window.
  3. Check Circuit Criminal, District Court, Municipal Court, or AlaCourt for the order that caused release.
  4. Check Community Corrections for pretrial monitoring or ROR when applicable.
  5. Search ADOC, VNS, ABPP, BOP, or ICE if the person left county custody by transfer.

Montgomery County Recent Release Limits

Montgomery County does not appear to publish a distinct public 24-hour or 72-hour release list in the sheriff portal pages reviewed. The local short-window source is the 96-hour Recent Arrests page. That page can show Book Num, View, Name, Gender, Race, Age, Date of Birth, and Booking Date, but it is not a release list and should not be treated as one.

The 24-Hour Releases and 72-Hour Releases pages explain how to verify same-day or three-day release questions without a release feed. The key route is current-inmate absence, booking identifiers, court records, sheriff release records, and transfer checks.

Note: The portal's update cadence and release-retention policy were not stated on the reviewed public pages.

Montgomery County Supervision Checks

ABPP controls parole and mandatory release supervision. Its public pages provide scheduled hearings, current-year parole results, hearing-result archives, institutional parole services, and contact details. A person released from ADOC may still be under ABPP supervision, so the county jail roster will not answer the full status question.

Alabama VNS and VINELink Alabama help with release and custody-change alerts for covered cases. Alabama VNS is limited to convicted Alabama offenders sentenced to ADOC custody. If the case has not gone to trial, Alabama VNS directs users to the sheriff in the county where the crime occurred.

Parole
Release from prison under board-approved supervision.
Probation
Court-ordered supervision that may follow or replace jail or prison time.
Discharge
The end of custody or supervision for the covered sentence.
Detainer
A hold or request from another agency that may cause transfer instead of community release.

Montgomery County Federal Releases

Federal and immigration releases use different systems. The BOP inmate locator covers federal inmates from 1982 forward and can show release date information. A person released from FPC Montgomery or managed through RRM Montgomery should be checked through BOP and the federal docket, not the county jail or ADOC.

ICE custody is separate. The ICE detainee locator is for current ICE detainees and can be searched by A-number or by name, country of birth, and birth date according to USA.gov. If the sheriff released someone to ICE, the county release does not mean community release.

Montgomery County Release Facilities

The release path depends on the facility. The Mac Sim Butler Montgomery County Detention Facility creates county booking and release records. State facilities in and near Montgomery require ADOC, VNS, and ABPP checks. Federal, ICE, and U.S. Marshals cases use federal systems.

Montgomery County Court Reconciliation

When public custody sources conflict, the court record is the best way to reconcile the release path. A Montgomery County jail record may show that local custody ended, while the court docket explains whether the reason was bond, ROR, dismissal, sentence completion, probation, commitment to ADOC, or a later warrant. The court file can also show whether a city, district, or felony case controls the next step.

Use the court record with the sheriff booking number and booking date. If the case moved to prison, use the court sentence with ADOC and VNS. If the case moved to federal or immigration custody, use federal records. That cross-check prevents a current-roster absence from being read as a final discharge when it may only be a transfer.
